Possession (Temple of Luna, Story 1)

The Temple of Luna stories are a series of novellas set in a post-apocalyptic future where humans and werewolves wage endless war, and werewolf warriors broken on the battlefield must be healed by women strong enough to tame them.

Originally written in 2009 and 2010, these short novellas were our second attempt at playing with a twist on the old (often problematic) "sexual healing" trope. The first attempt (literally titled Sexual Healing because an editor encouraged it, which was probably a terrible title for a book about psychics in space) has also been consigned to the archive. If you do manage to get your hands on it, you can see the evolution of our attempts to poke at it. It lays the groundwork for several dynamics we explore later on, however!

Fair warning: we were increasingly on the outs with our publisher of these stories as the series progressed. The final novella ends quite abruptly, as did our relationship with said epublisher. That is another reason these stories ended up in the archive.

(The titles also originally were SAVAGE [CURRENT TITLE], and that is a trope--and a word--we've decided is definitely best left behind. Growth is a glorious thing.)

Possession

Avani is training to become a revered priestess of the Temple of Luna, with the skills and magic needed to soothe the feral warriors fighting a brutal war against human persecution. Though forbidden contact with the warriors who have come to the temple for relief, the novice can't keep her distance from Rais, her uncle's protégé--and one of the most dangerous fighters the wolves have ever known.

As the royal heir, Rais is destined to take a mate and ascend the throne, but first he must complete his service as a warrior. The Savage Temple's priestesses offer him relief in the meantime, though there's one he's vowed never to touch. He remembers Avani as the innocent girl she was when they met, but the intervening years have made her a woman. A woman his wolf burns to claim...
